The anxiety associated with these worries can lead to physical and emotional symptoms such as blushing, sweating, stammering, choking up or “going blank”. A lot of people with social anxiety will often avoid feared social situations or may use alcohol or other drugs as an attempt to alleviate the anxiety. Sometimes the worrying thoughts and symptoms and avoidance of social situations can be so persistent that they interfere with productivity and performance at work or school and get in the way of living an enjoyable and value-filled life.
